DAWN WHITELAW
PAINTING FROM PHOTO REFERENCE
February 5-7, 2009
Cost: $400
9:00 am - 4:00 pm - Lecture, demos and individual help
Workshop description from instructor and artist, Dawn Whitelaw: My preference would always be to paint from life. The reality is that I often have to use photo reference. The focus of this workshop will be on learning to use photo reference in a creative, efficient way. Participants will bring their own photo reference to work from. The subject matter can be portrait, landscape, interior figurative etc. I would ask that the reference be original and not taken with an on-camera flash. Tuition includes a 40 page reference book.
Dawn Whitelaw taught painting for nearly thirty years at David Lipscomb University in Tennessee. She meets regularly with a group of artists who prefer to paint en plein air and she often travels to locations around the United States and abroad to paint. She is admired for her facility with landscape and is known as an accomplished colorist. Ms. Whitelaw has also gained a devoted following for her work as a portrait artist, particularly in the South. Her work has been exhibited in Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and Virginia and is part of numerous private and corporate collections, including Vanderbilt University's Medical Center, Dominion National Bank, and the Town of Dinan, France. She was one of only six artists invited to the "Call for Artists" by the American Academy of Women Artists.
